Paper Bag Tutorial

I thought that I would show a quick tutorial of a project I did for the wedding.  I decided today that I am the "Thrift Queen".  I know that others hold that title with me and I embrace you. =0)
I had collected some 12X12 sheets of black & white scrapbook paper (you'll never believe where I got it from) knowing that I could use them for something for my daughter's wedding.  When she bought her bridesmaids their gifts, she wanted bags to put their gifts in.  Being the last minute person that I am, I made bags out of the scrapbook paper.  I'd love to tell you that this was my original idea, but it was not.  I got it from a GREAT blog called Jones Design Company.  Pop on over there and take a peek.  It's a great place to visit!
1. The first step was to measure what I was putting in the bags so that they were big enough for the gift to fit. Measure both the length and width allowing extra length so that the gift bag extends slightly above your gift.  Also, add up to an additional inch to fold up the bottom of the bag.

2. Next I folded the bag in thirds making sure that it was wide enough for the item to fit in.  I then ran a long bead of glue down next to the edge and sealed it.  Run your finger down the glue to make it smooth.  You want your bags to look professional and not bumpy.

3.  Next I took a pair of scissors with a decorative cutting edge and cut across the top of the bag.  At the bottom of the bag fold it up approximately 1 inch and glue across, again making sure the glue is smooth.  Let your bags set to dry before adding your gift.

There you have some pretty finished paper bags.
My daughter had both jewelry and flip flops for her bridesmaids.  We put the jewelry in the paper bags and then I made a larger sized bag out of tulle and gathered it at the top.  We tied a black satin ribbon around it that had 4-5 pearls beaded on it.  Simple and elegant!

Simple but beautiful the best part is that you made them and it has a part of you in it. That makes it all the more specail.
