Good character is more to be praised than outstanding talent. Most talents are, to some extent, a gift. Good character, by contrast, is not given to us. We have to build it piece by piece- by thought, choice, courage, and determination. (John Luther)
I recently met a wonderful woman who is wise beyond her years. She was sharing with a group of women that her son was suspended from school. She said that she was writing a note to the district about the situation and then felt as if God said, "You are not going to send that." She then realized that there was a bigger picture that God had in mind for her son and that she would trust God with it. Working with children I find that so many times parents are eager to protect their children from consequences or situations rather than allow them to learn and build their character.
Oh, that we might be like this wise woman when it comes to our children and ourselves and trust that step by step, we are being molded into vessels of worth!
Blessings,

Yes Holly, I totally agree with you. I think of the verse "be still and know that I am God". Sometimes waiting and listening for God's voice is the best way. Thanks for sharing this. ~ Abby
I just spent some time catching up with you. I started with Blessings, then to The Potter and then moved down through to ME's picture - not an option. It was a stroll - all the way through that I needed very much. Thank you. Now, if I'll just hold onto "it all"! :) Thank you, Jenn
Oh my, do I remember those very words when I was about to write not one but many letters defending my children throughout their lives. I would freeze and then growl a bit, then sulk, then exhale a huge sigh of relief, then smile. :) Our children are now 22 and 18 and I am still tempted at times. :)
I have learned that even when our children are actually facing injustices, God is teaching everyone involved greater lessons than we know and NO ONE, not even mom, will defend them better than He does because He loves them more than we do. His justice is also PERFECT. It typically involves everyone coming up higher, one way or another but always higher. We are incapable of working out that type of justice.
Took your pretty button, Holly.
